Vita Brevis

You, alive: a most unusual state of affairs. As far as we know, it happens only once in the whole lifetime of the Universe. Make the most of it.

When I saw the header, I figured the post would be about Ars Longa Vita Brevis, the classic album by The Nice, which launched the careers of Keith Emerson and Steve Howe. I’ve no idea what this album would sound like these days, but it was pretty heady stuff back in the day.

No, no, Pete – Steve Howe wasn’t in that band.

There’s a restaurant down in Chinatown (35 E. Broadway) called The Nice Restaurant. It’s been there as long as I can remember (though as I trudged by by this past Sunday it looked like it might finally have closed), and I always wondered if Emerson ever ate there.

Steve Howe was in The Nice but left before the release of Ars Longa Vita Brevis:

Oh pooh. A brief flirtation; no recordings.
