I’ll be on the road this evening, so won’t have any time for writing. Meanwhile, though, reader Andrew Staroscik has brought to our attention an interesting discussion about consciousness over at Sandwalk. We’ll take a closer look here when we are back in harness.

It’s not even worth reading that discussion unless you’re gathering evidence that some otherwise intelligent people are prone to go on and on about matters they haven’t really thought through. Larry Moran is pretty good when discussing biological topics, but here he’s just, well, blathering.
Hi Bob,
Well, it’s one a.m., and I’ve just pulled in after five hours of driving and had a better look, and yes, generally I’d have to agree. We can pull it to pieces tomorrow. Or not. Sorry.
I see you got in there too.
One thing I do want to look at from the comment thread is this item, which asks the question “Why am I me?” — which the poster says he’s even spoken to David Chalmers about, and that Chalmers agrees it’s a troubling question. I must be missing something; it seems to me that I’m me because it is this brain in this head that is doing the wondering — and why that should even be a momentarily interesting, let alone troubling, question, eludes me at the moment. But I’m too zonked to say anything more about it now.
