Colored Folks

Every four years we hear a lot about “red states” and “blue states”, and see a lot of correspondingly decorated maps. I wonder who picked the colors, and how people feel about them.

I much prefer blue to red myself; I see red as being a restless, angry color, and blue as cool, thoughtful, and soothing. No matter which political party I felt drawn to — and for me it’s neither of the two, really — I’d want to be the blue part of the map. So I’m curious: is it just me? How do the proud Republican voters in those red states feel about being Red and not Blue?

I hate to admit it online. I especially hate it that I have to admit that I normally would be voting Republican. I suppose I can take a certain solace in admitting too-I would never be caught dead in a pair of red Levi’s. Well, so long as I keep my whereabouts secret from my ex-wife.

    Is this an acceptable answer?

What I have never understood is why white means up for elevators and red means down. Heaven and Hell? What other connection could there be between color and direction?

White means up and red means down? Is this a US thing?

As for being blue or red, I would rather be blue as well. I was born in a blue state, grew up in that same blue state, and still vote as a resident of that blue state. While it’s nice being blue, I would actually much rather have my vote mean something.
