Drake’s Passage

We must note with sadness the death of Patrick McGoohan, who was, I always thought, just about the coolest guy I ever saw on TV.

  1. Alas, Ricardo Montalban also passed away recently. I’ll always remember him as the crazed Khan in both the Star Trek TV series and in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.” Elisson offers Montalban a brief tribute at his blog.

As for McGoohan, I didn’t start watching “The Prisoner” until just last year — clips of it are on YouTube. I agree: the man was cool.

I discovered “The Prisoner” on late-late night TV when I was a freshman in college. At the time, I was beginning my explortion of anarchistic thought, and found this show quite to my liking.

  3. Cooler than Robert Culp and Bill Cosby in I Spy?

I think I watched most of the 17 episodes when they originally aired. I was already a fan of McGoohan from Secret Agent.

Peter, Culp and Cosby were pretty cool too. McGoohan was even cooler, though.

And Diana Rigg as Emma Peel: well, words fail me.

Thanks, David! The title is often the hardest part of these posts.
