This I fear (as I once heard from a just less than General Officer's mouth one day) far in the past... "If we don't get this right, this is gonna come back to haunt us." That same guy said a few months later, (I don't know whether he was quoting or not) "Afghanistan is the elephant's graveyard of modern armies, and they always return." Now before anyone goes jumping on me from whatever direction - Malcolm <em>might</em> be able to link to what I've said in the past. Incidentally, that officer no longer breathes.
