Maybe it's just me, living outside the United States, but I don't find anything that Jon says above either surprising or disturbing in the least. A powerful nation is looking out for its own interests? You don't say! America is not perfect, pure, and good? Did anyone really believe that we were?

I suppose I'm just cynical...

I for one would certainly have no moral objection to the US supporting those who are struggling against the autocratic Iranian regime. As JFK said:

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

I would not be surprised if the American Government was behind the protests in Iran. How quickly we forget history. Remember the 1970's.

The American Government post Kennedy is notorious for causing civil unrest when it is politically convenient for them. This is not a message of anti-patriotism either. I believe in what America stands for, this does not necessarily mean the corruption that occurs within its government.

Think about the motive for America. They DONT want Ahmadinejad to be re-elected because he is so anti-West. Now look at how much coverage the media is giving this event. It publicizes with a very particular bias.

I urge everyone to read up about America's involvement with Irans elections following up to the Islamic Revolution. We are not as "perfect" and "pure" and "good" as we are led to believe.
