According to reports, a U.S. airstrike may actually have killed the Pakistani Taliban warlord Baitullah Mehsud, the de facto ruler of South Waziristan. Confirmation is still pending, but if true this is news that will be received with grim satisfaction in many quarters.

Baitullah was one of the most brutal and dangerous men in the region, and that’s saying something. A ruthless jihadist, he claimed responsibility for the attack on the Lahore police station in March, and may also have been behind Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.

Like the Hydra, this snake (taliban) has many heads. To those who say otherwise, it is America’s duty to keep hacking away at this monster, not let it rest and grow stronger. The rest of the world who are not part of this effort needs to be grateful to us for our sacrifices of our precious soldiers lives in containing, if not defeating the menace of the extremists.

    Hey JK! Steady there!

I mean, the Taliban (and al-Q also) are hydra-headed enemies, and a little appreciation from the rest of the civilized world for the efforts we are making to contain the threat — which affects us all — is certainly not unwarranted.

  6. There were then unconfirmed reports of a deadly shooting at a meeting of top Taliban commanders who convened to discuss the choice of a successor to Mehsud.
What a wonderful opportunity for another bountiful drone attack.
