Well then Jeffery, explain me this - if not for evolution - how is it that here, I no longer see your name mis-spelled?

Hyphens (and dashes) recognized of course as evolutionary throwbacks. Even then, not without exception. I am familiar with the angry parent who confronted the schoolboard with "Why is it so difficult for you to pronunciate (as she wrote her daughter's name on the chalkboard Le-tia) and pronunciate it as it should be?"

Several attempts were made.

Lesha?

Letia?

Letya?

"No!" screamed the parent, "It's Ledasha! The dash is not silent."

Of course you have the option of running for the Conway School Board and making the appropriate changes. Might even receive the closest thing to a tenured position as I've witnessed the potential for, thus far.

"But then, here's this guy from 1772 entering in his diary, a snow amount of three feet."

Well, that's easily explained -- in those days, people had smaller feet. But I am surprised that anybody had three of them.

Talk about links no longer being available. It's a catastrophe of Gorebal Proportions !!!

Better read while the reading's good or another NWS link will be lost, (unsure about the NYT's archives).

Questions. When did the Industrial Revolution begin? When did it begin "Big Time" on an order of magnitude say, necessary to actually begin to affect Washington's snowfall?

If I'm reading "the experts" correctly then Washington couldn't have had more'n five or six inches prior to oh, maybe the Civil War? But then, here's this guy from 1772 entering in his diary, a snow amount of three feet.

Then again, this guy supposedly had wooden dentures, and his name was George. That should be sufficient to brand him a charlatan. But then, pert near the same time a feller affectionately called "TJ" by Sally records the same amount in his diary, "three feet."

I rather doubt either of 'em looked at wading through the stuff from a child's perspective. And, though the guy with the wooden teeth might be suspect, TJ's reputation comes down to us as kind of nerdy type.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/07/us/07storm.html

And because I'm concerned this next link might well disappear too, I'm going ahead and resort to copying and pasting - simply because I don't want my fellow planet dwellers to be lulled into forgetting about Gorebal Warming.

"...PRELIMINARY ALL-TIME SEASONAL SNOWFALL RECORDS SET AT THE THREE MAJOR CLIMATE SITES IN THE BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON AREA...

WITH THE 10.8 INCH TWO-DAY SNOWFALL TOTAL MEASURED AT RONALD REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT YESTERDAY...THEIR SEASONAL SNOWFALL TOTAL IN WASHINGTON DC NOW STANDS AT 55.9 INCHES. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS ALL-TIME SEASONAL SNOWFALL RECORD FOR WASHINGTON DC OF 54.4 INCHES SET IN THE WINTER OF 1898-99. OFFICIAL SNOWFALL RECORDS FOR WASHINGTON DC DATE BACK 126 YEARS TO 1884."

In the offchance this NWS link gets "lost" in the archives the next time a "HAF" argument ensues, you'll need a reference point:

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC

000
NOUS41 KLWX 111839 CCB
PNSLWX

Of course all the above doesn't guarantee that cutting emissions and greenhouse gases is gonna help anybody's pocketbook - conservation has it's limits:
