All The Nous That’s Fit To Print

The New York Times has introduced a philosophy-blog. It’s called The Stone. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

In the role of philosopher I could, of course, quibble with Critchley’s take on “what a philosopher is.” But the tone and timbre are right. It is only because we can afford leisure that philosophy exists.

I would only add that, when things go well, the fruit of leisure is a more critical awareness when one rises to the demands of an active existence.

I wonder if our friend BV would agree. He has often maintained that there is no avoiding philosophy.
