Taubes On Salt

Here’s Gary Taubes in Sunday’s New York Times, writing about the flimsy case for restricting dietary salt. (Mayor Bloomberg, take note.)

Michael Tomasky (was he involved in JournoList?), wrote this about Bloomberg: “When the rule goes into effect … New Yorkers will still be able to buy these beverages. And those who really feel that they will perish unless they have 32 ounces of Mountain Dew Code Red can simply buy two.” In this way, he thought the ban made perfect sense.

Have you ever heard anything so confused? You’d think he’d write: Since New Yorkers can always buy two small drinks, the ban seems pointless. But no, he saw just the opposite.

Yes, it’s just unbelievable. The arrogance and paternalism on display here is absolutely infuriating.

I missed, by the way, the perfect title for the soda-ban post: “Soda Jerk”.
