Yeah, Yeah

The other day our President, Barack Hussein Obama, took time out of his busy schedule to visit a Baltimore mosque. There he delivered an obsequious panegyric about the glorious role of Islam in America’s history. (If there is a major, or even mid-tier, religion that has in fact played a lesser role in America’s founding, history and rise to greatness, I’m hard-pressed to think of one; if you leave out the prominent role of Muslims in capturing slaves in Africa, then the salient appearances of Islam on the American stage have only been our difficulties with the Barbary pirates in the early 1800s, and the terror attacks of the past few decades. From the Mayflower to the Revolution, from the Framing to the Westward Expansion to the Great War to the Sixties and beyond, you will scour the annals of American history in vain for a notable Muslim patriot.) Mr. Obama also made sure, as usual, to castigate the rest of us for our egregious abuse of Muslims, and for thinking that the noble religion of Islam might be anything other than a great beacon of peace, casting a lambent aura of love upon all the world.

I’d comment at length, but I haven’t the oomph tonight. Others have, though. See, for example, here, here, here, and here.

Dollars to donuts, our resident 0bama-idolater is scouring the bottom of every Muslim barrel even as we speak sleep.

Every 4 years the media always brings up the idea of an “October surprise” right before the November vote. This year, who knows. It would not surprise me at all to see a twist on that theme. A post election ‘surprise’. I get the sense we are being ‘groomed’ for something.

Oh. Need to finish my first cup of coffee afore I go commenting.

NASA was 1960s not 1760s. My mistake.

    Carry on.

I normally try to ignore 0bama’s droning that is tailored to the specific photo op, in which he spews unsupported assertions just as his OEM acolyte does in this venue. But just out of curiosity, did the Big 0 deign to offer any supportive examples to illustrate the glory of his “religion of peace”?

“did the Big 0 deign to offer any supportive examples to illustrate the glory of his “religion of peace”? Not really. He does frequently allow as to how that “religion” is a frequent “peace” to him.

You can read the whole thing here, if you have the stomach for it.

We learn, for example, that “Islam” means “peace” when in actual fact it merely derives from the same root, and in the religious context means “surrender” of all personal desires to the will of Allah.

BHO also adds to his growing family; alongside Trayvon Martin we now have the Muslim teenagers of America.

    Also:

Starting in colonial times, many of the slaves brought here from Africa were Muslim.

Well, right: black African Muslims, captured and sold by Arab Muslim slave-merchants. So much for “common humanity” (see below).

A few even won their freedom and became known to many Americans.

If he can name even one freed Muslim slave who rose even to modest celebrity, I’d be surprised. At any rate, he didn’t bother to do so.

Generations of Muslim Americans helped to build our nation.

Not so you’d notice. Again, name one. If he could, you can bet your bisht he would have.

They built America’s first mosque, surprisingly enough, in North Dakota.

Not until 1929. It soon was abandoned.

And so often, we focus on our outward differences and we forget how much we share. Christians, Jews, Muslims — we’re all, under our faiths, descendants of Abraham. So mere tolerance of different religions is not enough. Our faiths summon us to embrace our common humanity.

Except Islam “summons” — nay, commands — the rest of us to submit to Allah or die. Surah 9:29, for example:

Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Eccch. Enough. You can go read it yourself if you like.

I’d be interested to learn if there is any historical evidence that “many” of the slaves brought to the Americas were Muslim. Incidentally, my understanding is that the Arab slave traders did not capture the slaves themselves, but bought them from other black Africans, who usually had captured them in tribal warfare.

Obama’s eagerness to lie blatantly is astounding. There was no significant Muslim presence in the US until quite a while after World War II. Through most of the 20th century, most Arab Americans were Christians. The man is just full of shit – there’s no other way to put it.

Yes, djf — good points, and I believe you are correct about Arab slave-merchants. Better would have been to say “sold to us by…”.

And you are of course correct about Barack Obama’s contempt for the truth. He’ll trample all over it when it suits his aims to do so.

Henry Louis Gates has some stuff published on one, “Queen Nzingha” of, regionally-speaking, West Coast Africa allying with the Portuguese to euphemistically, Cannot someone rid me of this [these] Priest[s]?

Which, for some while worked out for Queen Nzingha until, for the ‘Interior Peoples’ attracted the eyes of The Religion of Peace besieging her territorial borders from the east.

“In 1999, for instance, President Mathieu Kerekou of Benin astonished an all-black congregation in Baltimore by falling to his knees and begging African-Americans’ forgiveness for the “shameful” and “abominable” role Africans played in the trade. … (Professor Gates himself relates that to fellows

    &

“Through the work of Professors Thornton and Heywood, we also know that the victims of the slave trade were predominantly members of as few as 50 ethnic groups. This data, along with the tracing of blacks’ ancestry through DNA tests, is giving us a fuller understanding of the identities of both the victims and the facilitators of the African slave trade.

For many African-Americans, these facts can be difficult to accept.”

Today it is no wonder that when a ‘conversation’ about race or slavery is called for, the topics are tightly controlled if allowed at all. Too much truth can be bad for business. Like the ‘business’ of Obama’s home church and Rev. Wright. Obama may be a ‘Christian’, but he is of the Marxism heavy Liberation Theology brand. Islam would have an easy appeal to him.

Islam would have an easy appeal to him.

Indeed it would, and so it obviously does. After all, his entire family on his father’s and stepfather’s side are Muslims, and he was marinated in Islam as a child. This is the U.S. President, named after Mohammed’s grandson, who, after four members of our diplomatic mission were slaughtered by jihadis in Benghazi, told the world that “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam,” and who has reminded us that he will “stand with the Muslims” should things get “ugly”.

The other major influence in his family tree was, of course, Marxism. Given all that, with the rootlessness that his broken, nomadic family and mixed race had to have caused in his formative years, and his later career as an Alinskyite “organizer”, then his loathing of the traditional American nation, so deeply rooted in a particular people’s culture and ancient heritage, is easy to understand. We are lucky to have survived his presidency as well as we have — although of course his destructive legacy is still unfolding.

What worries me, Robert, is that for the typical Leftist moron that is a happy choice.
