Moscow On The Hudson

Here’s the mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, quoted in New York Magazine (my emphasis):

Q: …Where has it been hardest to make progress? Wages, housing, schools?

A: What’s been hardest is the way our legal system is structured to favor private property. I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be. I think there’s a socialistic impulse, which I hear every day, in every kind of community, that they would like things to be planned in accordance to their needs. And I would, too. Unfortunately, what stands in the way of that is hundreds of years of history that have elevated property rights and wealth to the point that that’s the reality that calls the tune on a lot of development.

What’s telling about this isn’t Hizzoner’s antipathy to the central principle of America’s founding; anybody’s who’d been paying any attention at all already knew the guy was a communist. It’s that things have moved so far along that he no longer feels the slightest inclination to conceal it.

  2. And why would he try to conceal it? The progs have already decided that this time it would work.

The willful (or not) ignorance of the Left is indescribable with mere words. Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword could not have known about American progressive liberalism. The progs are truly a waste of good food.

Well, I’ve always maintained that the Cold War never really ended. Only shifted location and players. Too many in the Democrat party were too soft on Communism and never had to pay for it. Yes, I hold a grudge. Also I am of the sort that neither forgets nor forgives.

The fact that de Blasio walks around free at all makes me angry. I have a Cold War mentality.

  5. The association of Communism with Russia, China and the 3rd World has blinded the normie mind to one extremely salient fact; Communism is an entirely Western idea in its genesis, one articulated chiefly by two Germans who spent most of their lives in London. Its roots don’t lie in some strange faraway land where people dress in papyrus and eat babies for amusement. No – look to the Renaissance, look to the millenarian pathologies in the Radical Reformation. There is a damn good reason that we can’t seem to get rid of these people. This madness runs in the family.

    Luke,

This has been a theme of Mencius Moldbug’s as well, as I imagine you may know. See the UR post I linked to today.
