Here’s a pretty picture:

It’s a rotifer. This image, which I found at the website of Wired magazine, is one of the winning photographs from Nikon’s 2007 Small World Contest. Nikon has been running this competition since 1977, and it has generated some stunningly beautiful pictures. You can browse a gallery of them here.
