For those interested in the mortal struggle between Islam and the West (viz. those with the wit to acknowledge that such a struggle even exists), it’s been an eventful few days. The biggest story has been that the government of Pakistan has now surrendered the valley of Swat to the Taliban. The story in the Times claims that certain concessions were given — that schools will not be closed, and so forth — but obviously that is nonsense. This is defeat, and retreat, and we should have no doubt that the Taliban are going to do as they please.
Meanwhile, as you have probably heard, one Muzzammil Hassan, who had made a name for himself as a compelling example of a “moderate” Muslim, is now charged with beheading his wife. Beheading his wife. (Do you disagree that Islam is fundamentally incompatible with Western culture and values? Feel free to comment below.) If you haven’t read the story by now, you can do so here.
Finally, over at Gates of Vienna guest poster “El Ingles” argues, in an outstandingly balanced and thoughtful essay, that some sort of Western tribalism (based not necessarily on race or ethnicity, but at the very least on a shared culture) is needed. He argues very persuasively, and I’d like to know what you think. Here.

I seem to recall your posting a link to a Patrick Buchanan post the other day.
This I fear (as I once heard from a just less than General Officer’s mouth one day) far in the past…
“If we don’t get this right, this is gonna come back to haunt us.” That same guy said a few months later, (I don’t know whether he was quoting or not) “Afghanistan is the elephant’s graveyard of modern armies, and they always return.”
Now before anyone goes jumping on me from whatever direction – Malcolm might be able to link to what I’ve said in the past. Incidentally, that officer no longer breathes.
Despite this outrage, it’s the face-eating chimpanzee that seems to have topped Drudge’s headlines.

Chimpanzees are unbelievably strong, and they are truly vicious fighters. I’m surprised that woman survived the attack.
Oh yeah, the Muslims are going to over-run the West. Like they have the capability. Everybody run, with your hands in the air? The Muslims are coming! The Muslims are coming!
Better round them all up and put them in camps where they won’t hurt anybody (but themselves). Right? Forcibly convert them to, say, Christianity, or maybe atheism. And perhaps make them work in our fields, pick our cotton?
