In an update to yesterday’s story, CNN is now reporting that the hapless Samantha Orobator will not face the death penalty after all, because she is pregnant. She became pregnant while in custody, which for a 20-year-old British woman facing capital charges in a Laotian prison probably does not mean that she fell in love and wanted to start a family. One would have to imagine that someone raped her, and it is grimly ironic that he may have saved her life by doing so.
