Moussa Koussa Calls A Truce(-a)

In the wake of the UN no-fly resolution, Libyan foreign minister Moussa Koussa has called an immediate cease-fire. This is by far the wisest move for Qaddafi, because with the government’s reconquest of all but Benghazi and eastern Cyrenaica complete, there will now be a consolidation period during which, with far greater resources, Qaddafi’s strength relative to the poorly organized rebels with surely grow — as will the security and robustness of the supply lines he had obviously outrun. It’s a safe bet that the “international community” will not have the stomach to put troops in to roll back Qaddafi’s gains.

Malcolm, while I’m not completely sure you’re making the same observation I was, progressing toward, while the UN dithered (publicly anyway). The haste “however one spells it” especially since he was largely employing mercenaries (who, by the very nature of “merc fighting”) knew precisely what to do – and did it. Supply lines be damned.

“Hosi” knew/knows the UN – he learned it by watching Somalia through the decades. By the time a ‘consensus’ could be reached, he was free to use whatever aircraft he damned well wished.

Now – “no-fly-zone” or no, everyone can just sit back and accept all the backslapping accolades from their UN counterparts – and those of the grateful populations of the various “United” Nations.

Because, unless the UN imposes a “no-truck-zone” there won’t be a single UN decreed and acceptable aircraft flying over Libya. What’s the need? There won’t be anything to shoot at.

Should any “Congress Critters” read this – if you’re still looking for ways to cut the deficit – take a good hard look at where the UN gets it’s funding from.

Strike paragraph four. It appears at least the Danes (pre-positioned in Sicily) will likely – if not already – fly. Probably some French, maybe the UK.

Then again, if one’s been following along, there was a few days ago, this:

Being very close to my B’day – I’m away from my accustomed link library – and, I can only “one-finger-type” on a laptop.

Still, I think Malcolm’s “No ground troops” will likely hold – then again ‘However one spells it’ is using mercs.

    Carry on.
