Sorry to harp so much on politics and social issues lately, but these are parlous times, and a great deal is at stake. A reader reminded me the other day that many of the categories over on the sidebar — categories that used to be the busiest ones — are now nearly “widowed”.
The reader was right, and I’m sure there are others who don’t come around here so much anymore because of it. But over the seven years of this blog’s existence, during which I’ve written over 2,500 posts, the world has changed, and as I’ve gotten older I’ve changed with it. The United States, and the West generally, stand at the edge of an abyss — one we’ve largely dug for ourselves — and while I’m still as interested as I ever was in things like evolutionary theory, martial arts, religion, language, philosophy of mind, etc., nothing now seems to me so clamant, so urgent, as our civilization’s existential predicament, in all its fearsome aspects.
Perhaps I should separate all this political and social content, which has greatly increased traffic over the past couple of years, into a new blog, and put waka waka waka back the way it used to be. I’ll think about that. And if you’re a reader who liked it better here before, please forgive me, and thanks very much for continuing to visit.

I began reading here (I think) late ’08. Took awhile to get the balls up to comment – but then… noticed One-Eyed and TBH didn’t seem too concerned…
Uhmmm…. but linking to a few on your sidebar Malcolm – well, lot not too much recent. Then again.
But I’m really not a long time reader – and your interests are far wider ranging than mine… and (gosh and golly) I’m from Arkansas – it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that most times when I don’t know what the hell ya’ll are talking about – I won’t know either what or which sidebar link to hit.
I’d suggest see which are posting most recent.
Then: maybe title a post “the-one-eyed-man & TheBigHenry decide Waka’s links” and go from there. Kevin, Jeff, Jess Kaplan – some few others (maybe Duff but I’m afraid he’s about to get our carriers in between a really hard place and a fast missile …. do recall Duff an Exocet is pretty old tech)…
Anyway Malcolm – ol’ JK for one ain’t gonna offer any advice … sometimes those links jump alight. So – let One-Eyed and TBH do it if you must: Give you a break and I figure TBH will give me a breathing space between calling Rick Perry back into the fray.

I guess the key-word for “catching your drift” in the above-quoted sentence is “concerned”. If you meant to say that I was not in any way perturbed by your commentary, then that is indeed correct. I admit to being perplexed on occasion by the comments you make, but that is only because I am not fluent in Arkansasian.
I have not been personally offended by any of your comments that I have understood, and I count you as a genial fellow-commenter in Malcolm’s salon.
