Loco Parentis

The infantilization of America, and the accelerating subordination of a free people to self-righteous, moralizing, totalitarian bureaucratic busybodies, continues apace. Here.

This is shocking! No mayor has the right to impede Americans’ sacrosanct right to enjoy a Big Gulp or three.

Moreover, those who enjoy their Mountain Dew in Costco-size portions will simply get two smaller drinks, thus doubling the amount of paper cups to be discarded.

Very glad to see that you agree, Peter. This is outrageous — and outrageously stupid, too. What a haughty, arrogant SOB that man is.

Oh I dunno, guy has yet to ban them low-rider jeans right?

‘Course banning them big cups of sody pop’ll likely make it hard to keep those kinda britches from falling to the wearer’s ankles. Eventually.

First the jihad at the Park Slope food coop, and now this. New York used to be a haven for the louche and dissolute, where you could get stinking drunk at McAnn’s and still get change from a $10 bill. Now it looks like it will be a misdemeanor to drink from a two liter Coke. You should go to City Hall and make a demand: take me two your liter.

It could be argued (not by me, though – no interest in getting beaten up) that soda pop is linked to obesity, that Americans are among the fattest people on earth, that these big gulp drinks are popular with people of low income who must depend on the state to take care of them when obesity causes the problems it does, and that the people who sell big gulp drinks coudn’t care less. Such statistics may be on the mind of our arrogant, haughty SOB mayor.

    Or not.

Oh yes, Churchgoer, I had assumed that they are. Or at least I certainly hope so, as otherwise this misbegotten plan would not only be infantilizing, insulting, arrogant, intrusive, paternalistic, incoherent, capricious, tyrannical, etc., but would also be completely irrational as well.

Your comment illustrates the essential point that the more we all depend on the State, the more the State can (and will) rationally justify expanding its authority to control every aspect of our lives.

Yeah something like that. Nifty using the DNA linky stuff to explain my smiley attempt cause it would appear the Mayor’s has mutated.

I’d use it again but seeing Jon Stewart agreeing with Tucker Carlson I figure suffices.
