I dunno TBH, I can see ’em as no smarter’n a possum with brains added, can’t see ’em having the ability of a formed ideology. Almost go so far as to say neither are exactly amoral either.

  5. JK,

When I accuse them of liberal twattery, I am claiming they have been fully brainwashed into the entitlement mentality, which I like to call “entitlementalia”. I agree they are too ignorant to have formed any political viewpoint, but they are in full expression of their liberal entitlementalia.

I also wouldn’t call them amoral. Rather, they have the invidious morality of leftist liberalism.

The complete lack of empathy shown by these girls is horrifying; by any measure I think it would be fair to call them sociopaths.

Is this purely due to culture and upbringing? Is it just the logical continuation of the “entitlementality” that is now so prevalent in our society? Or is there a biological component here?

Are we turning into the Ik?

  7. “Are we turning into the Ik?”

To quote Tonto addressing the Lone Ranger, when they were surrounded by a tribe of Indians on the warpath: “Who’s we, white man?”

I still try to maintain a code of ethics in dealing with all elements of our “multicultural” society, including the sociopaths who call themselves “progressives”. This despite having survived the horrors of the Holocaust, and despite the hatefulness spewing from the Obama administration on a daily basis.

There is much to despise in how our society is “evolving”, to quote the Obama Himself. But I continue to hope that He and the rest of his thugs will be defeated in November, after which I pray they will all go on permanent change-of-station in a giant handbasket.

It’s clear that all that money spent sending Henry to charm school went to waste.

Politics or “entitlementality” has nothing to do with it. Kids have been stealing stuff since Tom Sawyer stole the wagon, if not longer. To paraphrase Sigmund Freud: a theft is sometimes only a theft.

Now now. I seem to recall and it wasn’t so long ago, you two agreeing on some sorta thing. So astonished I, I forgot what it was.

Can’t see it’s anything to do with “culture” since I equate that somehow with the recognition of Institutions. The Girl Scouts might be piddling but I would recognize the organization having some attributes of institution.

“Upbringing” – well, I’d have trouble with that too. In having “my trouble” with that I’d hesitate bringing biology into it.

“Entitlementality”? I’m comfortable with that. Now is that phenomena monopolized by either of the two extremes of the recognized Left or Right? I’d say, ‘depends on whose ox is getting gored’ admittedly, I’m using a local (Arkansas) subject that’s come up recently in these parts.

The Left’s favorites seem to be more or less universal – as for the Right, we’re seeing a big foofaraw over USDA subsidies. On a shallow level, I can see where these two young ladies (if they could figure out how to legibly fill in a grant form) could probably qualify for disaster assistance.

Peter, this is more than just kids stealing. In our day, when kids did such things, they did it for an illicit thrill, knew they were doing something wrong, and when caught, were generally ashamed and embarrassed. Not so these feral girls. They seem to have no trace whatsoever of empathy, or conscience, or basic human decency — they show no sign of having any moral framework at all.

How did they get to be that way? How would you feel if that was your daughter?

    Posted June 2, 2012 at 3:31 pm | Permalink
  13. JK,

This is no longer about those two young ladies thugs (please spare me the PC). It’s about the little pricks who enable the big thug in the White House, who in turn enables the big thug at the Justice Department, and who also appoints a “wise Latina” to the Supreme Court so she can perpetuate the thuggery. It’s about the polarization of our society to the point where a large portion of it is only interested in scamming the system, like a pack of dogs.

Back in 1974 or so, Eric Hoffer wrote, with piercing and prophetic accuracy:

The change that matters is the change of a society’s axioms. The 1960s saw a slaughter of axioms. It would be interesting to identify the new axioms. I can think of a couple: (1) The object of life is fun. (2) The world owes everyone a living.

    Now we reap the harvest.

Well TBH, don’t for a minute think I’m one to go off the PC Deep-End – the most recent deletion recall was typed by your’s truly… but it wasn’t the only deleted comment though I would admit the last being odiously obscene.

The comment I left above which Peter QED’d I’d hoped would be more obvious in that I omitted any reference to Malcolm’s inclusion of “sociopath” – I suppose I should have made that explicit. (Should you need anything clearer, you might ask if Malcolm recalls how I replied in an email relating to dialing in some coordinates on a US fired ICBM.) Just do it in email, Janet is watching.

“It’s about the polarization of our society to the point where a large portion of it is only interested in scamming the system, like a pack of dogs.”

I’d reiterate, depends on whose ox is getting gored where political ideology and these two examples of our society can possibly be linked by comparison.

  17. JK,

The PC I mentioned referred to “ladies thugs”. Wasn’t that obvious?

And as for gored oxen, note that I didn’t single out any demographic when I compared those who concentrate on scamming the system as a pack of dogs. I know such mentality knows no political bounds. But it most definitely is a sign of the times, and I do blame the left for that.

“The PC I mentioned referred to “ladies thugs”. Wasn’t that obvious?”

Notice I used the word “examples” in my reply TBH?

As well, when I studied on copying and pasting the sentence of your’s I did – I considered doing this to that:

It’s about the polarization of our society to the point where a large portion of it is only interested in scamming the system, like a pack of dogs.”

TBH? In some ways, I recognize I’m at a disadvantage of sorts engaging in back and forth on Waka threads. While I’ve been out in the big wide world doing stuff as best I could, participating in this group’s discussions is something I … well can follow along on, appreciating after some reflection, I’m getting an education of sorts. That’s why on threads I’m capable of recognizing are apt to go long – I don’t comment.

Hillbilly speaking – and I’m reasonably certain, in the groups within which you’re comfortably accustomed conversing with, contain alot of stuff “the greater majority” of my fellow hillbillys might avoid like a tetanus shot. For whatever “Somehow” this particular hillbilly got the opportunity of seeing Afghanistan in the 80s. From that point on, recognized what the fulcrum of a teeter-totter might/could possibly be.

Anyways. On this thread I see Peter make a remark about the money spent for your Charm School, your comeback having survived the Holocaust, spending more money on sending Peter to hell cause he’s a “little schmuck” – me being hillbilly wondering how in the heck two guys who are capable of agreeing on somesuch… well TBH, you recognize us hillbillies are kinda dumb, right?

Hopefully not so dumb as to steal nine bucks from a Girl Scout – in the South the 9 year-old Girl Scout is carrying a 9mm and Mom has a Quad 50.

Anyway TBH, this time what I’m trying to express is just plainly… the assumptions and the language we use to express all that stuff is like carrying 5 gallons of water in a 2 gallon bucket.

The answers to your questions are a) I have no idea and b) horrified. However, I don’t think that the girls’ lack of moral fiber is emblematic of contemporary America, or that their insouciance can be extrapolated into any larger truth.

It’s not an American phenomenon: you don’t have to go further than the front page of today’s Times to see a horrifying account of the gang rape of an Afghan teen. Nor do you have to think very long to come up with numerous examples of amorality from past generations of Americans, whether it is Leopold and Loeb, George Metesky, Ted Kaczinski, or the Samuel L. Jackson character in Pulp Fiction (is that Greatest Movie Ever, or what?). It even exists in the future, for those who have seen and enjoyed Clockwork Orange (Second Greatest Movie Ever, or maybe third after Putney Swope).

Amoral adults were amoral teenagers. I don’t recall that juvenile misbehavior in our day was all of the harmless Eddie Haskell variety. Some people simply lack a moral core, and it was ever thus.

Leopold and Loeb, perhaps. Not Metesky or Kaczynski — they were acting on moral principles, even if their actions were reprehensible and their principles delusional. This is something else, far more banal and far more ominous, because these girls seem so ordinary.

You are one hard-core optimist, Peter.

Guilty as charged. If optimism were a crime, I would be doing life without parole.

Have you ever read Hannah Arendt’s book on Adolph Eichmann (Eichmann in Jerusalem: the banality of evil)?

Optimism is the state of mind one reaches after traveling the path to enlightenment. It comes from the realization of the essential fact of human existence: life is just a bowl of cherries. To be precise: pickled cherries. They’re awesome.

    2 pounds bing cherries

    3 cups red wine vinegar
    3/4 cup sugar
    2 tbsp kosher salt
    2 strips orange zest
    1 tsp black peppercorns
    2 cinnamon sticks
    1 tbsp coriander seeds
    bay leaf

    1. bring all ingredients except cherries to a boil
    2. simmer for ten minutes
    3. allow to cool for ten minutes
    4. pour syrup over berries so they are submerged
    5. allow to cool completely
    6. when cool, refrigerate for up to a month

And now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for me to start the coals, so the prodigal daughter and I can have bbq Fred Flintstone beef ribs, Thai chicken, vidalia onions, Japanese eggplant, and – of course – pickled cherries.
