Insurgency being centripetal, the lethal attack against the Assad family in Damascus marks a strategic tipping point in Syria. Assad is now said to have left Damascus for Latakia.
No cheering, please. There is no good outcome here, no matter what happens.

One thing is clear through this horror show: Russia richly deserves its characterization as the Evil Empire (even if it isn’t so much of an empire these days).
