Beyond Parody

In this endless, eye-gouging, brass-knuckled, dung-flecked presidential campaign, we’ve been hearing an awful lot of noise from the Obama machine about an imaginary conservative “war on women”. (It’s calumnious rubbish, of course.)

On the the other hand, there is indeed one resolutely committed ideological faction in this world that really is waging a relentless war on what we in the West consider to be basic women’s rights, every chance it gets. It’s doctrinaire Islam.

It was with some amusement, then (though not surprise) that I ran across this:

Jumah At the 2012 DNC

Does the libidinous Sandra Fluke, who will also be speaking at the Democratic convention, really believe that these people are her allies? That Imam Siraj Mahhaj, who has openly called for the replacement of the United States Constuitution with a caliphate, is going to join her crusade for abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and taxpayer-subsidized contraception?

What the hell are these people smoking?

The event you refer to is not associated with or endorsed by the DNC. It is a separate event spnsored by a different organization, which is included in a guide to Convention week events published by the city of Charlotte.

In America, we have freedom of religion, assembly, and speech. Do you have a problem with that?

Right you are, and I stand corrected on that detail. It’s “The Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee”, which is “a non-profit, non-partisan organization established by the city of Charlotte to fulfill obligations of the master contract with the Democratic National Convention Committee.”

Pardon me for saying so, but right wing propaganda sites like the Blaze may not be the most trustworthy source of information.

However I have it on good authority that the NAMBLA convention in Tampa this week is proof positive of the RNC’s endorsement of pederasty.

It is virtually impossible to find unslanted reporting anywhere. Should I go instead to MSNBC?

My understanding is that this has been listed by the DNC as an “official function”.

Well, maybe so. I was watching it a few minutes ago, seeing John Sununu expound on how we are all doomed if Obama gets re-elected.

MSNBC is not a news channel, and (unlike Fox News) does not purport to be one. However, those who think it is the left wing equivalent of Fox generally have not watched it.

Conservative Republican Joe Scarborough hosts perhaps the most informative and interesting political show on television. Chris Hayes has what is definitely the wonkiest political show on television. With the exception of the blowhard Ed Schultz, the other shows have liberal hosts but lots of regular conservative guests, who are generally treated with respect and not shouted over.

I heartily suggest that you suspend belief and spend an hour watching the intelligent and witty Rachel Maddow. While I don’t expect you to agree with her on many things, I guarantee that it would be time well spent.

Believe it or not, I’ve watched Rachel Maddow often, as well as the rest of the MSNBC lineup: Chris Matthews, Lawrence O’Donnell, etc. I also follow then on Twitter.

I like to hear what both sides are saying.

Sununu is right about that, by the way.

    Who knew?

I disagree. However, I am disinclined to pursue the matter at this time, as I have several Flintstones-sized beef ribs waiting to sear over hot coals.

Far better than watching the RNC. If I want to see the Big Man from New Jersey, that would be the late Clarence Clemmons – somehow Chris Christie won’t do.

Don’t be fooled by.the fact that Mitt looks like the father in a 1950’s TV sitcom, or that he is married to a known equestrienne. Among primates, the alpha male spreads his manhood generously. Mitt is mucho macho.
