Ouch!

Slipped on a puddle in the kitchen last night, caught my right elbow on the counter as I was falling, and tore my right shoulder to pieces. Back from the ER at Cape Cod Hospital — lovely people there! — but will need MRI and orthopaedic consultation. Judging by the tearing and crunching sounds as the thing happened, this is a pretty bad one; surgery likely. In a sling for now on powerful medicaments. Typing very difficult. Will be quite slow here for a little while, I fear.

What a year!

Try setting your keyboard to a one-handed layout:

First make the change in software, then pop off the physical keys and rearrange them, being careful not to lose any.

    Very sorry to hear that.

They’ll set up some physio for you. Be sure to stick with it, even if you don’t feel much initial progress, and later when you think you’re over it enough. I don’t have to tell you how I know. . . .

    And, good luck.

Good grief Malcolm! This is pretty much your summer. My wife took a fall in the kitchen last night as we were preparing dinner. She sustained none of the damage you did. Being a senior citizen is rough.

Hope Nick has some flexibility where his returning to station is concerned.

And lay off the Dogfish for a spell ol’ Pal?

A major torn rotator cuff is a nasty thing, especially for one your age. Take care and rehab with diligence (once they let you start). The alternative could be a shiny stainless steel “reverse prosthesis” and that’s not a great solution. If you don’t do it right the first time it gets worse.

  7. Sorry to hear of this, Malcolm. Does it mean you’ll be experiencing things from the left for a while?

Well Malcolm as typing one handed is difficult maybe placing headphones on your ears will be easier? Volume Up!
