Auld Lang Swine

These past two weekends mark the celebration of the Chinese New Year; this time around it’s the Year of the Pig. As I’ve mentioned before, kung fu schools traditionally take to the streets to do lion and dragon dances. Ours is no exception, and as I’ve done most years since 1976, I spent the day traipsing around New York’s Chinatown in the freezing cold.

The New Year’s parade is an exhausting, chaotic affair, a long day of crowds and din, and I’m too worn out to write much this evening. So I’ll just leave you with a couple of poorly composed, low-quality photos that I snapped with my cell-phone as we made our way around Chinatown’s narrow streets in a long and serpentine path.
