Over at Mangan’s, Dennis questions commonly accepted ideas about sleep; it turns out that our sleaves may in fact last a little longer if we leave them a little ravel’d.

Yes, but the problem with sleaves which last longer is that you keep getting these damned spots on them which won’t come out.
My favorite verse about sleep was written by Thomas Dekker:
Golden slumbers kiss your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
If these lines sound somehow familiar, perhaps it would be helpful to note that they were written in 1603, two years after the era of modern agronomy was ushered in by the invention of the seed drill by Jethro Tull.
Gee Peter, you’re pretty ambidextrous – I had no clue. Except for the Jethro Tull thing.
Any idea where I could find me some “wantons” to lullaby – they’d have to be willing to get to the “lullaby place” by pickup truck though.
Doesn’t Paula Jones live near you?
