The other day I was reading up on Phlebopus marginatus, the Salmon gum mushroom of Western Australia, and noticed that it is “generally recorded as of unknown edibility”.
I was surprised to see that — I mean, is the thing edible, or not? — until I thought about it and realized just what’s involved in answering that question.
