Actually it can be quite important. Turbulence is the bear of both flight and sailing. It is part of drag but is also a safety problem. The little winglets on the tips of 737 and Aerobus planes are to break up vortices which can cause a following small plane to lose control. Being a physics junkie I thank you for the hit.
