Exhibit A

One more from the UK: the Daily Mail reports that modern humans are weaklings compared to our early ancestors.

They might be on to something.

Think about it even more recently than pre-agriculture. Think how much strength it took to accomplish a day’s work in medieval Europe and add to that what it took to do battle. The pictures don’t do it justice. Try lifting and swinging a broad sword and then do it encased in armor. Even a sabre that is actually a weapon, not a fencing toy, is quite heavy after a little while. Or consider what it took to draw a long-bow.

Some of it is genetic. Some people are born stronger than normal, but the number of them is probably decreasing, and normal is also decreasing. This will become important when the barbarians finally arrive for the final conquest.
