    I don’t think we’re doomed, but I do think our collective head is up our collective ass. It’s going to take a great deal of pulling to set things right.

    Sadly, the pulling has all been in the wrong direction, for a long time now, and with ever-increasing force. At best, what’s going to happen is a great deal of angry and strenuous pulling in opposite directions — which, history reminds us, can become extremely unpleasant.
