   Yemen on the brink? Once “our president” sees this news, he will be surprised. After all, He recently proclaimed Yemen to be a model of some sort of success.

   Actually.

   I’ve been a little surprised recognition of Yemen’s prominence has taken this long. Perhaps the Saudis have been preoccupied?

   Quite Whitewall. But it’s worse than that. Click on Africa, see the arc that swings up from Mali through Nigeria to Libya? Then splits into two arcs, the northern extending from Libya through Syria into Iraq or, south through Sudan, into Somalia and a short dinghy ride across the Gulf of Aden into Yemen?

   African arcs. The Western edge in Mali is getting close to the Atlantic Ocean. The arcs make 3 side by side regions. No wonder so many refugees are flowing north to southern Europe. Sea to sea to sea.

   How big is it? Africa is often an after thought in our modern world but the link reminds of the sheer size. Many different country names from when I started school in the 1950s. So many new names post colonial times, that it often amuses me that some Black Americans use the term “African American”.

   A while back I was sent to a Dr. near my home as he was a specialist in what I needed….no, not a brain transplant. He was my age and just as white. His accent stumped me as I have done a great deal of travel in my life and sort of pride myself you know. I finally blurted out “southern new Zealand”? Nope, outskirts of Cape Town,SA. He pointed out that he was the only “African American” in the building. Literally and correctly. No objections were voiced by the integrated staff.

    “Success” as regards Yemen Whitewall simply means that’s the only place (so far) fellow Americans’ due process means a Hellfire missile.
