The lovely Nina and I are off to Vienna this evening, where our daughter is due to give birth to our first grandson. Things may be a little quiet around here until we get back, in early August — though I expect I’ll put up a post or two from over there.
If my tone seems a tad subdued regarding some of our more frequent topics, it’s probably because I don’t want to get arrested. (Last I heard, Austria had no First Amendment, and a lot of increasingly irritated voices that need tamping down.)
Feel free to chat amongst yourselves till I get back.

Austria also had a fraudulent election a month ago, which a court said would be held again in a couple of months. Seems the “wrong” candidate was frightfully close to possibly winning.
Head on a swivel, keep your cameras under something. Enjoy your trip, Pops. (Or will it be Gramps, Pappy etc?)
Oh and here’s you and the new Mom a “random” post:

Gute Reise in Á–sterreich!
Malcolm,
Don’t forget your English/Austrian dictionary. 0bama never leaves home without his.
JK, I’ve missed seeing you elsewhere.
Events Whitewall my pal, events.
(But, thankfully, nothing to do with Cleaveland.)
I should be back at “my desk” oh, probably Saturday.
(Well Whitewall as it was you I ‘cided not to take a nap.)
First it was (I think) Privilege then, “the new Supremacy” (or maybe I’ve got the two reversed. I dunno, hard to keep up) anyway … I’m doin’ my best y’all to keep everybody informed and, up-to-date.
I give y’all … Oblivousness!

Stay tuned. Be aware or be square. Sumpin’ like that anyways.
Well. So much for obliviousness.
Maybe – as we have Trump to thank for getting us on the “T Topic[s]” … and perhaps only coincidentally my Congressional Representative is running the House Agri Committee … any y’all familiar with the so-called Chicken Tax and what’s the Chicken Tax to do with the USA’s not manufacturing sporty pickups?
I’m figurin’ Whitewall if, there’s anybody on Waka asides from myself knows chickens and pickups, that’d be you. Henry tag along, this might prove enlightenin’. Might even induce you to trade your Buick in for a Monster Truck.
Oh yeah, the T Topics – Trade, Tariffs & Taxes:

JK,
I owned a Buick once, in the 1970s. For the past dozen years, however, we’ve been driving a 2001 Acura that I inherited from my Dad when he died. Prior to that, we had a couple of Honda’s going back to 1985.
Never owned a truck — never even drove one (and I’ve been driving ’bout 60 years now). I do like chicken, though.
Well Henry, your Congress Critter got my Congress Critter’s phone number?
I mean, since you like it Jap-style anyway …

Oh. And buy Tyson’s. Chicken.
JK,
I’ve never had it “Jap-style”. Is it any different from Caucasian-style?
My wife, the lovely Trish, does most of our food shopping. I’ll mention your Tyson recommendation, but I better keep quiet about “Jap-style”. She wouldn’t be amused.
JK, That white obliviousness stuff is, I guess part of the kulture rot that has given us our two presidential candidates. Even culture writers can become famous for writing jibberish.
Isn’t subsidized trade a wonderous thing? Milk is in there with butter and cotton and sugar. We have no real free market in domestic ag. And chickens? Down here they used to run all over the place which was funny to outsiders. But today, it’s called “free range chickens”….even those that run under the front porch. You know the picture.
Now pick up trucks…now yer talkin’. The omni present “country Cadillac”. I’ve had several and now have a fairly new Silverado that is all leather interior…somewhere there is a naked cow running around. I’ve had some nice cars, but I like a truck.
Rest assured we buy Tyson chicken frequently and have for years. There used to be a Tyson plant about 80 miles west of here.
Henry, I noticed you giving that liberal fellow hell over there. I’ve seen him before and he is often on a blog that David once linked to about a year ago. I don’t remember the blog name but I went on it a couple of times just for fun. It was all calm and all the libs were lounging about on their “all fours” saying their mantras and such like kennel dogs that had just been fed. Then I showed up out of the blue and pandemonium! Picture a dog kennel and a guy tossing one pork chop into the middle! It was fun for a couple of days but then got repetitive.
Robert,
I wasn’t trying to give him hell; just trying to be as civil as possible. But after a while, his disrespectful snide remarks made me realize he is just in it for baiting and being a smart aleck, all the while talking rubbish.
So I exited as gracefully as possible from the tedium. He’s still trying to bait me, but I’m done.
Henry, that’s smart. He will chum the water for sure. If I could remember that blog he hangs out on, I would tell you. Sometimes it’s fun to return the favor on their home turf.
I hear you, Robert; been there. But I’ve reached a point in my life when “Life’s too short” has acquired a sobering significance for me.
Sparring with morons I don’t really know or care about is just a waste of my precious time. I’d much rather stick needles in my eyes.
I wonder how things are in Vienna this evening?
Hot here! And Vienna really is a lovely city.
No news, though, on the grandson front.
There’s times no news is good news.
Of course we are expecting the naming to be a Waka exclusive scoop.
I’m beginning to think the whole “grandson” thing was a ruse to lure Malcolm and the Missus to Europe, where they will soon be eaten.
