    I think the professor may be deprecating reason for the Christian a bit too much. It can provide quite a few justifications for Christianity, for example the reality of human sin and frailty that even atheists readily acknowledge. Or one can postulate God’s existence by pointing to C.S. Lewis’ Tao. Of course, Vallicella is quite right that such use of intellect will never be enough, and that one ultimately has to take the Kierkegaardian leap of faith to reach God.
