Whelp, it appears that I got that one wrong. The “bomber” (to the extent that what he sent can be called “bombs”) now seems to be a Trump-loving loonie. (“With friends like that…”)

I thought William of Ockham was on my side on this one, for all the reasons I laid out in my earlier post. But tonight I can hear the old Schoolman’s voice chiding me across the centuries:

“Never attribute to wit what can be explained by stupidity.”

My bad, folks.

    was actually a Trump-loving loonie

Seems far more a lover of chaos and crime than a lover of Trump. To cartoon-ishly plaster a van with stickers and chose these acts bespeaks way more malice than love.

He fits the mold perfectly: a deracinated man of the margins, of sufficiently low intelligence that the world must indeed appear to him to be a strange and overwhelming place. That today he calls himself a “Republican” is probably due more to a surplus of testosterone than studied conviction. Of course it goes without saying – but I’ll say it anyway – that not that many Republicans are themselves a picture of studied conviction.
If it was his intention to do harm, he will have succeeded in doing so only to himself and the president that is the object of his capricious affection. As the devices were actually less ‘devices’ than B-film props, this would only further underline the man’s poor state of mental health. If, instead, they were intended to merely inspire fear, it would seem more an illustration of diminished intelligence, given the negative effects such an action would have on the object of his affection. One can see why the conspiracy theorists can see this as a false flag. But to paraphrase again, why ascribe to malice what can so easily be explained by stupidity?
On the bright side, the “Florida Man” brand has expanded to include greater diversity. The brand can only get stronger as Florida becomes more diverse!

Well there’s always this possibility when we slice the possibilities along the edges of Ockham’s Razor …

That van is a curious feature of this story. And there are of course those who still find the narrative dubious.

This fellow is a ‘known wolf’ to Fl. law enforcement. Florida seems to have a lot of ‘known wolves’. A brightly festooned van like that was a big red arrow in the sky saying ‘check here’ for me. Awfully fast and convenient.

I have to say it’s pretty incredible that we now have ALL these things happening RIGHT before the mid-term: 6000 Latin American serfs marching on the border; a swarthy ‘white supremacist’ who apparently claims to be a Seminole bombing prominent Democrats; a white supremacist shooting up a synagogue.

One hell of a coincidence, no?

I’ve spent some time there; now call it “Flori-duh”.

It’s known as the land of nice weather and easy living, thus attracts lots of grifters and such; think Ratso Rizzo from Midnight Cowboy.

“think Ratso Rizzo from Midnight Cowboy.” I always feel the urge to take a bath every time I think of him and that movie.

@Jacuqes: The only thing I find hard to explain is the invasion regiments.

The half-Filipino who got too old and broken to get attention by pumping iron, and turned to sending bomb-themed objects to folks who the Worldwide Wrestling Foundation President has maligned (correctly) is just the sort of character we need to get used to in clownworld.

The middle-aged man who had his neighbourhood ruined by refugees that the Dor Hadash congregation ‘welcomed’ (to every neighbourhood but their own) going all ‘Falling Down’? Oh, we can expect plenty more of these happenings in this crazy world where the only thing worse than a heterosexual white man is an old heterosexual white man.

But the ‘caravans’? I’m torn between whether thinking that’s happening now because there is a small faction of the Democrat party who will benefit from pro-immigrant rhetoric and are funding it, that it’s being funded by some GOPe stooges because pretending to oppose it will give the GOP a boost overall, or that it’s happening now because you don’t want to wander through Mexico in summer and fall is better.
