Over at Unz Review, Steve Sailer comments on Baltimore’s homicide statistics, in which 303 murders were committed with handguns, and only 9 with long guns (the stats lump together rifles and shotguns, so the number of rifles used was almost certainly fewer than 9). Blunt objects and knives each were used in more murders than long guns.
For some reason, though, all we ever hear about is those darn rifles.

Interesting that they have a column for swords.
Middle class women and their daughters can be panicked by school shootings. They’re intensely emotional and not bright, but they’re bright enough not to panic about the diversity killing each other in ghettoes. It doesn’t affect them and they know by now it’ll never change, even if they don’t want to think about why it’ll never change.
And the diversity themselves? They’re perfectly willing to believe their brother shot their nephew with a Glock because the bad white men outside the cities own bad rifles. If any middle class women are dumb enough to waste energy weeping over the vibes killing each other, they’re dumb enough to blame it on Bubba’s AR, too. Both groups believe that any two things that are emotionally linked in the media become causally linked in reality, by sympathetic magic.
Bloomberg’s YouTube commercials claim that school shootings are caused by Trump not saying mean things about the NRA. Find me a single progressive, anywhere, who’ll categorically reject that logic. You can’t.
@Wilber: I think it is much more pernicious than that. Handguns can be neutralized with body armor. Most long guns will penetrate it. Remove long guns and the citizenry are effectively disarmed. Handguns are short distance weapons. Someone with a long gun can sit back and safely shoot a person with a handgun.
Very good point, Bill.
