The Jacobins have arrived early.
A fine statement (one “woman” with courage makes a majority), but honest members of the Left like Weiss have their work cut out for them. Institutions such as the NYT are probably basically lost causes, so alternative media sources must be built up. This will require financial resources and perseverance in the light of progressive bullies. Fortunately, it appears that honest liberals recognize there’s a problem which can be half the battle, as can be seen in Yascha Mounk’s openness initiative, the Harper’s statement, Steven Pinker’s calling out his critics on Twitter, Andrew Sullivan’s imminent retirement from New York magazine, and the like. I wish them well, for any nation worth its salt requires a healthy Left.
And while I dislike trite avowals of good will – “don’t worry everything will be alright!” I also wish you well Malcolm.
