    Oof. Fun read, but having a thoughtful, well-connected and successful person like Anton (and unlike, say, me) writing a bitterly sarcastic column that essentially says we’re doomed is worrisome. I haven’t been in touch with him in a while, but Scott McConnell is in the “cheerful pessimist” camp as well.

    Also Malcolm, the term we’re looking for in regards to insoluble political dynamics is “purity spiral.”

    Yes, “purity spiral” is the phrase. And let’s face it, things are worrisome! But I appreciated the humor, however dark.
