Over There

Our reader and commenter ‘mharko’ has left some excellent remarks on a thread at Bill V.’s place about our worsening political situation. Go and have a look, here.

(Sorry not to have responded myself, mharko. I’m still quite foggy and unwell with this damned respiratory virus I’ve been battling, and it’s been all I can manage to get a few words on the page over here every day or two.)

Kind of you to say so, Malcolm. Bill offered some worthy correctives. He has consistently been a voice of insight. To the list of things we can do, I wanted to add: 1)serious meditation in a creative and sustainable way not cluttered up with propositional fencing, but open to the universe as it is, and alternating with reasoned discourse and dialog, study of history and great ideas and 2)ways to stay embodied physically that are grounding, e.g.jiu jitsu or other low impact martial arts, jogging, going barefoot on bare earth. Odd things and not very politically dramatic, perhaps, but I feel like people need to reconnect with our intuitive humanity. The McGilchrist book I mentioned there has been more and more engrossing to me. Third of the way through, with lots of underlining.
Sorry to hear you’re still under the weather. I have been struck for a week with extreme inexplicable pain in hips, thighs and knees, giving me more time than usual to read and ponder things. Losing sleep and muscle tone every day and night, though.
The SOTU was hard to sit through tonight.
Well, stay hydrated and turn the corner on that thing!

Thanks, mharko, and wise suggestions all round.

And yes, that pugnacious SOTU was hard to listen to. It was impressive, though, that whatever they pumped Biden full of got him through the thing without drifting off into the fog. Boy, was he wired and angry, though.

I think I am turning the corner with this virus. Two weeks!
