Alea Iacta Est

Well, it’s done — New York has elected its first Muslim, socialist, dawa-jihadi mayor, and a new era begins: one that will likely make the nocuous administrations of David Dinkins and Bill De Blasio look like the Gilded Age.

Some are blaming Curtis Sliwa for this, but not me; it’s simply indefensible to say that the one good candidate, the Republican who won his party’s primary, should have stood aside in order that a truly horrible man — a man with the blood of elderly citizens on his hands, a failed and disgraced Democrat who was booted from office for sexual misconduct, and who has told traditionally minded New Yorkers that they “have no place here” — should have a chance of defeating someone even worse that he already lost to once.

So! Mamdani (“I, Madman”) it is. He begins his overlordship with a terrifying promise:

“We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about.”

Good luck, New York. You’re going to need it.

As a multi decade resident of Manhattan, let’s clear a few things up about this joke of an election.

First, most of Mamdani’s stated goals, like tax the rich, are completely beyond his ability to control.

Like most leftists, he was writing checks that his ass can’t cash in the lead up to election, promising low information immigrants and even lower information upper middle class “socialists” promises that he will never be able to act on.

Mamdani is a spoiled Asian brat that has never held a real job in his life, and that lack of competency will be revealed in spades, as it was with Adams.

The DNC, still reeling from the losses during the 2024 presidential election, has convinced itself that Mamdani is the next Obama, even though he cannot run for President.

Mamdani’s handlers will try to blame Trump for any failings, as many of his schemes would require large infusions of federal cash that Trump will likely block.

For all of Obama’s failings and corruption, he still had the type of manner and bearing that suits national politics, something Mamdani lacks in spades.

The bottom line is that Mamdani can do damage, and likely will, but not in the revolutionary manner that he most desires.

The DNC, and liberals generally, are going to have to own this, all of this. Zohran will fail, and will drag the Democrats down with him.

He may very well be worse than Dinkins, and you will watch all of his UES/UWS/Park Slope socialists lose their enthusiasm when he shutters Rikers and builds some more homeless shelters in upper middle class neighborhoods.

The best the DNC can come up with is Mamdani and AOC, which should be cause for celebration among reactionaries and accelerationists everywhere.

All I can say is that I’m mighty glad that in 2021, after living in Park Slope for almost 40 years, we sold the brownstone we owned and moved out.

Out of all the things Mamdani’s about to do, the most destructive thing of all may well be causing a great many other taxpayers to do the same.

    Malcolm,

The fact that the greatest American city, my birthplace 80 years ago and home for 56 years, is now in the hands of the islamo-gauchistes is terribly depressing. Although tempted, I will not reminisce here about the now lost social and cultural qualities that this unique Atlantic metropolis possessed in the decades following the Second World War, before her essence was forever changed by the mass importation of the detritus of the globe, but simply point your readers to an article of Heather Mac Donald in the current The Spectator–“The Cost of Zohran”—that foretells what further degradations are in store for the city:

Thanks for that excellent article, Vito. I’ve promoted it to the main page.
