It’s Saint Patrick’s Day, and the President of Ireland chose to mark it with a speech endorsing the accelerating demographic replacement of the indigenous Irish people — a tiny, irreplaceable population, with a rich and unique culture, who, if nothing is done (and it is probably already too late) will be a minority in their own homeland a couple of decades from now.
Poor, poor, long-suffering Ireland. Imagine enduring centuries of brutal oppression, the Famine, the Civil War, the Troubles, and at long last creating a prosperous, self-governing homeland for your ancient people on their tiny, beautiful island — finally, a chance for real stewardship and preservation for the treasure of your rich and ancient heritage! — only to have it snatched from your hands in the very hour of triumph, and given away, by those you trusted, to an inrushing horde of utterly alien invaders.
It’s hard to imagine a more unforgivable act of betrayal.
