Will Wonders Never Cease?

Here’s a stunner for those who don’t believe in miracles: My indefatigable friend Herschel D. Ducker, a resident of northern Arkansas whose cholesterol score is higher than his credit score (and whose Gleason score hovers somewhere between “hominahominahomina” and “Bang! Zoom!”), turns 70 years old today. Please raise a glass (especially you longtime readers of these scribblings).

Herschel is entirely sui generis; I’ve never known anyone else like him (and neither have you). As the old saying goes, “they broke the mold when they made him”. (Whether it was before or after is somewhat unclear).

Herschel is also a very smart man, with all sorts of exotic connections, and I am indebted to him for many keen observations and penetrating insights (often unprintable, for reasons I am not at liberty to disclose) over our decades-long friendship.

Happy birthday, Hersch! — and many more. Bottoms up!

Is Herschel JK? If so, happy 70th JK.

    Jason,

I know the fellow and we have had differences – for the most part – unkindly.

However. And I recall at which exact point, the fellow described, fairly and somewhat accurately, myself and that which I represent.

Malcolm frequently describes (complains) my retorts as “impenetrable” However, given sufficient time; occasionally he texts back “Aha!”

But that’s of no consequence in the great scheme.

But back to J.K. Yes we’re both “Hillbillys” just of a different variety.

On another blog. In another time. In that instance more conflict than I desired to consider, participate in

J.K. with whatever motivation (which at that time I, still adjudged “continued conflict”) considered as much a compliment as I would likely receive from the fellow.

Jason. You’ve perhaps read Vonnegut? His character Billy Pilgrim?

That I took as the closest thing to a compliment I was likely to receive from the fellow. Here. I pray

Whatever differences exist – existed – end.

Thank you Malcolm. I’ll encourage my Eulogist to read this post.

    It has been a privilege.

Thanks for your clarification Herschel D. Allow me to say, I’ve always seen JK as a good guy who I’ve gotten along with well here at Malcolm’s place.

Have you commented elsewhere at Motus Mentis? If not, it would be nice to hear your subsequent thoughts.

Not that I recall Jason, at least directly.

However there are six categories (some now defunct) over on Malcolm’s sidebar where you, probably – it has been awhile – may in archives find my *signing.

Perhaps you may find my handle “wiki-leaked.” Mostly though, I have been assured, the ones most disagreeable to the, er, consensus, were ethered.
