Service Notice

Although it may look, at this point, as if I’ve pretty much abandoned the blog, I want to assure those who still stop by that I haven’t – it’s just been a difficult time for writing. The complications attending my brother’s death are mostly over, but the month of July is when our family converges on the Cape, and with our son Nick’s recent nuptials, the group is bigger than ever. (At the moment we have fourteen people distributed between our modest house and a nearby rental.)

That said, I won’t deny that, having achieved septuagenarian status, the words don’t flow onto the page quite as smoothly they used to. But the things that I understand, I think I understand better than ever, and although I now see that the the scope of my ignorance and mystification is greater than I had ever suspected, the things that puzzle and baffle me are still worth thinking about, and writing about. So I’ll be back – by August at the latest, and possibly sooner.

Thanks as always to all of you. Enjoy your summer.

It would be nice to hear if you’ve done another song for your family, like McCartney’s “Blackbird” if memory serves. Glad you can enjoy being with kin after the pain you have all recently been through.

I guess the latter part of August is the plan now, huh? Hope you enjoyed the family Cape-scapade and have now recovered from same. Looking forwards to your return!

Sorry! Yes, I’ve been slow to get back up; it’s been hard to get the pump primed. (Actually I appreciate the noodging — I need it, so thanks).

“Noodging”! Good lord, it’s been DECADES since I’ve heard anyone use that. It’s such a great word, too. I really have to work that back into my own rotation….
