Here is a website that figures out where you’re from in America by analyzing your word choices and pronunciations. (All I can say about how well it works is that it correctly identified my own point of origin: New Jersey.)

    My wife, son, and I answered the questions. She is an Air Force “brat” whose parents were from southwest Arkansas and had the voculabury and accents to prove it. But starting at age 13, she lived in the D.C. area for 47 years. I am a native of Michigan who left for the D.C. area at age 21 and stayed there for 40 years. Our son, who has lived in south central Virginia for the past 31 years, lived in the D.C. area for his first 28 years. We all got the same result: our dialects are predominantly those of the D.C. area. My wife’s semi-Southern accent and my Michigan accent went to the D.C. area to die.
