Don’t Let The Door Hit Ya Where The Dog Shoulda Bit Ya!

I haven’t had much to say about the American political scene for a while, and it has never in my lifetime felt more like an existential struggle between mortal enemies. But there are still some bright spots, and occasions for momentary happiness.

In particular, to paraphrase Oscar Wilde: one would have to have a heart of stone to read about the ordeal of Ilhan Omar without laughing. May she get everything she deserves.

Omar illustrates a couple of weaknesses in our political system, The most obvious is that an alien ethnicity can geographically concentrate, vote as a bloc, and wrest sovereignty from a native majority that is divided into parties. Another is the was an otherwise negligible congress critter can be magnified by the partisan media. The infamous Squad was just three narcissistic dingbats magnified until it appeared poised to somehow take over the government.

It would be sweet to see this particular narcissistic dingbat expelled from the House and the country, but I think this is just kayfabe set in motion as an October Surprise. The existential struggle is certainly real, but my experience of the struggle is that of a man chained in a cave watching shadows that he knows to be shadows on the wall.

    Hi JMSmith,

I also find it increasingly difficult to tune in to the political circus; I’m 70 years old, comfortably retired, and know enough history both to understand where we are in the arc of our civilization, and to know that nothing I have to say about any of it will make the slightest difference.

That said, I think it’s important to stand up to scoundrels like Ilhan Omar — a shameless, parasitic grifter and repeatedly avowed enemy of my nation and my people, who has had her thumb in our eye and crowed about it for a long time now — if only pour encourager les autres.
