Speaking this afternoon just a few short blocks from my Park Avenue office, Iran’s president Ahmadinejad informed us that the despicable American Empire is circling the drain, along with the suzerainty of our evil Zionist puppets over their innocent Palestinian victims. As you can probably imagine, I was downright chopfallen to hear such distressing news. But then, to cheer us up, Mr. A. reminded us all of an important fact that we should keep in mind whenever we’re feeling down: because we are living in the End Times, we can all look forward to the imminent inauguration of the Kingdom of God, presided over by the elusive 12th Imam, with our own doughty Jesus right by his side!
Now, I realize that our own Pentecostalists and other such sorts (who make up about 99% of the population, I hear, once you get out past Weehawken) may quibble about who’s at the top of the K.O.G. ticket (and I can name one in particular who is raring to haul off and smite those nucular-crazy Eye-rannians without so much as blinking), but at least they all have something in common. Kind of makes you feel better about this crazy old world, doesn’t it?

Anyone who uses religion as a source of their political persuasion, are nuts. If Ahmadenijad wasn’t so blatant about this, then maybe, just maybe, he would have half a leg to stand on. Who knows, maybe they will learn in the future to separate religion from politics (at least the illusion of it like we do here in the US), which may make things different. Until that happens, we are in for another long Crusade.
Hi Daniel, and thanks for dropping by to comment.
The fact is that the content of most exoteric religious beliefs is such that if sincerely held they will inevitably influence one’s views on politics, and everything else. It has always been that way; indeed it is part and parcel of the usefulness of religion as a binding force for human groups. Islam, whose prophet was in his lifetime also the supreme political leader of his flock, is particularly susceptible to this.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for any of this to change.
I don’t know really what this man from Iran is trying to do. Its obvious that he
hates the US and Jewish people beyond reason. The US is not on its last legs.
Neither is western civilizations. I do have serious doubts about the future of Iran
and their present course. Why is he being given a platform at the UN to spew
his tiring diatribe?
Welcome, Paul.
As for what Ahmadinejad is trying to do, he is simply using one of the world’s more conspicuous soapboxes to air his views, and to fan anti-Western flames. Given his position, and his beliefs, it’s perfectly understandable. Iran is under a great deal of pressure, and he seeks to shunt the criticism to the Islamic world’s usual scapegoats. I’m sure that on a personal level he enjoys the attention as well; what politician wouldn’t?
He certainly must be relishing the timing, with Western financial markets reeling as they are. Of course the US is not on its last legs, but the ones we have are clearly a bit wobbly just now.
Why is he being given this opportunity to preen and bray on the world stage? Well, that’s the way the UN’s General Assembly works: if you can grab hold of sovereign power somewhere – by whatever means – you’re in. Why we still feel that such a platform ought to occupy several acres of prime real estate in the heart of America’s principal city, however, is another matter altogether.
Ahmadinejad is a sorry individual who shows his sorry colors everytime he opens his mouth. The very fact that he stands in and near the UN spewing his hatred message is an indication of the failure of his nation, his country, his weak symbolic power. His ideas of future are dark death for everyone but his. He is only his and who kisses his backside.America may well fall, but woe, that is WOE to the world when it does. Little brain puppets like Ahmadinejad will be beheaded and thrown down at the whim of real terror. We maybe seeing the changing of days but little individuals like Ahmad are nothing. His power is not derived in love but hatred. His money spent in destruction not unity, His aspiration is to rule all of Islam, to dictate policy, and rewrite the Koran. He walks in Christian clothes, drives a christian car, drinks and eats christian food, lust after christian women, and proclaims he has done something worthy in the progression of the world. He has invented nothing, created nothing, and done nothing but sit and hope the world will fall down so he can take over. He has no idea as to what that even means. His enemies will be equal to the waves of the oceans of the world. That is what the U.S. has thwarted for 200 years. Ahamad has not offered sactuary to the Iraqies, the palastineians, hamas, afganies, or any one he just walks about spewing hatred. You are what you say. This is the truth, I don’t want to live in a world without, Isreal or the UNITED states. So bring it on, you’ll live in fear and grunts will rule.
Hi slowtono,
A christian car! The nerve.
“Anyone who uses religion as a source of their political persuasion, are nuts.”
HELLO, The current US president(Bush), uses his religion as an excuse for his murdering rampages, and Iran has never suggested occupying or taking over other countries, in the name of religion like the US has.
I don’t agree with all this man says, but many in the USA should at least listen to what he has to say instead of plugging their ears… and then blindly saying he’s spewing hatred.
He has made anti-isreal/anti-zionist comments, but not antisemitic… there is a big difference.
My, I can hardly keep up.
Outsider, if people plug their ears, are they blindly saying he’s spewing hatred?
Anyway: yes, no antisemite, that Ahmadinejad; I’m sure some of his best friends are Jews.
It’s important to remember that the whole point of Ahmadinejad’s rants is keep critical eyes focused elsewhere. Iranians “in the street” know perfectly well what game Ahmadinejad is playing — and they don’t take him seriously. So why should we?
Quite right, Bob.
