Nothing To Do, But What A View

I wish Carl Sagan were alive to see this: a gigapixel panoramic view of the surface of Mars. Don’t forget to click the “full screen” button.

One has to wonder if Carl’d agree with this sentence:

Two university researchers say environmental restrictions have become unnecessarily restrictive and expensive–on Mars.

@Malcolm–Beautiful! Thanks for finding this. Better use for my tax dollars than a lot of what they go far.

@JK–Their ends justify their means. It was always my impression that the space probes were made as sterile as possible to prevent contaminating the site with Terran material or biologicals. They would be the first to scream if some finding turned out to be contamination from Earth.

I find it amazing that when their particular goals are affected that scientists become the world’s biggest pragmatists. Yet when it is someone else’s goals, especially if in conflict with theirs, they are the prime ideologues.
