The Weather Outside Is Frightful

As you may have heard, there’s quite a storm on in the Northeast tonight. The lovely Nina and I are riding it out in our snug little dacha at the far end of Cape Cod, twenty-five miles out in the Atlantic. It’s been snowing all day, and we’re supposed to end up with about two feet of the stuff by the time it’s all over, tomorrow evening.

With luck, the power won’t go out; that would be bad. But it’s getting much colder now, and the snow is already fluffy enough to blow out of the trees, and not bring down many branches. The car is safely parked on the dirt road at the bottom of our little hill, and we have ample provisions and plenty of firewood. (I hope you are all safe and warm, wherever you are.)

Let it snow!

    “Let it snow!”?

Sheesh Malcolm. In Arkansas we got ‘one for the record books’ December 6th, the local – heck make that a hunert mile radius – schools had their charges stay home. (Now I truly understand how schoolkids can be labeled “charges.”) Well, except that the cops couldn’t get round to press any on the little shits.

I couldn’t get to the beer store for ten days (not too terrible bad for me only ’cause I’ve long had the NOAA satellite sites bookmarked and am perfectly capable of preparing “reasonably accurate” forecasts) that’s not to say I didn’t get a few “visitors” [read beggars] who failed to heed my advisories to stock up.

Though I did wind up placing hasps and padlock on my personal outdoors (normally I’d call it an icebox but by the 8th I took it off the grid) beerbox and moved it directly outside my office window. I also re-located my gun-rack making it plainly visible to the outside.

Lots of trouble these here “let it snow!” days – and in 36 hours I figure round two is gonna start. But thankfully during these past days respite I did manage to get a lot of skeet practice in – took a chance I realize doing it so close to the city limits but hopefully, hopefully … more will have noticed things’ve changed.

    They’re on their own.

  3. And here in Hayang, South Korea, it’s a balmy 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Go figure.

    Kevin?

As much as I bitched above about this season’s “gifts that keep giving” your comment reminds me it’s not as bad as it could be. Well maybe, if I hadn’t acquired such arthritis in the interim.

Still. I remember where I was when I experienced “The Coldest” and yes it was a Stephen King kinda cold.

Off the coast of Korea busting ice outta pad-eyes (bowl-shaped divets on flight decks used to secure aircraft). Truly the only time in my life I looked forward to the possibility of “my yellow-shirt” being blinded long enough (just) to allow me the luxury of getting caught in the jet blast of an F-14 Tomcat.
