Worried that our culture is in decline? Relax.

In fact, the more you can relax, the less this will hurt.

After reading that, a long hot shower is in order. It is really true that politics is downstream from the culture, and politicians have been doing this to us for years.

What’s worst about this in my mind, Mr. Pollack, is the cheap moral relativism being displayed. For no Harvard student, professor, or administrator (or relatively few anyway) wants to actually live like this. They know perfectly well that anal sex is an awful thing. Yet because Harvard is so imbued with liberalism in the pejorative sense, they can’t bring themselves to actually prohibit a campus forum on this kind of obscenity. To do so would be to commit a sacrilege at the holy altar of choice.

    Jason,

What’s instructive here is that the moral relativism on display is not general; at least that would be consistent.

Try instead to have an on-campus seminar on why, say, “It’s OK To Be White”, and you will quickly see what implacable moral absolutism looks like.

When I came to this page to post a comment, the Name and Email fields were already populated with “Jason” and “c*****n@yahoo.com” respectively (there were no stars in the e-mail address).

He’s not me. I’m guessing that this is a glitch in the commenting software.

That said, I wonder how much a BS costs at Harvard, and what the people paying for it would think of this did they know about it. I can’t see this as money well-spent (and insofar as it’s tax money, I don’t appreciate being forced to finance it).

Can I assume that the irony of assigning this post to the category “Shameless Filler” was intended?

Yes you can, Colin. I was thinking about what category to use, then remembered I had this one. Seemed apt.

  8. The nihilism of our age, the sure knowledge that life has been striped of any purpose beyond the most empty pursuit of mere experience, is probably what explains why people like Paddock come to do what they do. Something about the human spirit revolts against the sheer grubbiness of how we live; but that is no guarantee that the revolt will be healthy.
