The prominent conservative writer and speaker Charlie Kirk has just been shot at a public event in Utah. As I write, he is reported to be in critical condition.
Mr. Kirk is a young man, with a wife and children. Let us hope and pray that he survives this attack.
We are in a very dangerous place right now.

Mom and I (she – two months from ninety, I seventy come March) were traveling to another of my seemingly innumerable doctor’s appointments a mere three weeks ago and I had 93.5 KOMT ‘The Eagle’ tuned in on the radio.
Mom says, “Who is this guy you’re listening to, this guy knows his Bible. He sounds like my Papa.”
Papaw, as we grandchildren called him, born during Reconstruction and his family line having survived perhaps the most murderous internecine guerilla warfare this nation – to this date – has ever experienced, was ever the most faithful man I ever was acquainted with. Most Americans are woefully ignorant of that time. To wit:

My mom had me at nineteen too, JK. It’s nice you’re able to help her in this regard. I’ll probably be facing a similar situation someday, although considering my medical maladies and my sovereign’s astonishing good health (like my late Oma she’ll probably live a century) I worry the roles might be reversed!
Excuse me, not trying to detract from the horror of what just happened. Unfortunately Malcolm, as the Chinese say your children and grandchildren are likely to live in interesting times.
I’d rather they get interesting now, to spare them the pain.
