Readers of a certain age will be saddened by the passing of Bob Weir, who died yesterday at the age of 78.
I remember when the Grateful Dead were just getting started (and were all very much alive). What happened?
“Everyone is but a breath”.

I went to see the Dead at MSG in the fall of 88′ with several friends who were originally from New Hampshire and dyed in the wool deadheads. It was the first and only time I would see them live.
The Dead played 5, or maybe it was 7, nights in a row, and it was an incredible scene surrounding the band, and that largely traveled with them from city to city, year after year, decade after decade.
They were an amazing live band, and rarely disappointed loyal fans, and the week I saw them was no exception.
Fortuitously, I also happened to be visiting San Francisco the same week Jerry G passed away, and boy oh boy, his hometown registered that loss in a big way.
Most people under 50, and certainly younger than 40, have no idea how impactful the Dead were, and how much they nearly single handedly kept the Hippie spirit, for good and ill, alive for a couple decades after the 60’s ended.
RIP Bob Weir.
What a long, strange trip it’s been.
