All yours, folks.

  1. I burst into this comment thread all ready to spew something, then I realized I had nothing to say. So I’ll just link you to my shaky phone-cam footage of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent appearance at the Seoul premier of “Terminator Genisys.” It was a so-so movie, but it was fun to see Arnold and the lovely Emilia Clarke in person, even if only for a few minutes.

More photos here. Movie review here.

Did the rest of you see what the NY times did with the Ellen Pao story? This is what they first wrote:

    —– start quote
Ellen Pao, the interim chief executive of Reddit, resigned from the online message board on Friday after a week of ceaseless criticism from scores of angry users over the handling of an employee departure.

Her exit, which the company described as a mutual agreement between her and Reddit’s board, follows a week of unrest in the Reddit community, which is made up of more than 160 million regular users who use the site to talk about anything from current events to viral cat photos.
    —– end quote

Then it was changed to this, with no note that it was in fact edited:

    —– start quote

Ellen Pao became a hero to many when she took on the entrenched sexist culture of Silicon Valley. But sentiment is a fickle thing, and late Friday the entrepreneur fell victim to a shrill crowd demanding her ouster as chief executive of the popular social media site Reddit.

Ms. Pao’s abrupt downfall in the face of a torrent of sexist and racist attacks, many of them on Reddit itself, is likely to renew charges that bullying, harrassment and ugly behavior are out of control on the web – and that Silicon Valley’s well-publicized lack of interest in hiring anyone who is not male and white is contributing to the problem.

    —– end quote

    Can you spot the difference?

Yes, this revision seems to be attracting some attention.

The original was good neutral reporting. I suppose it made it seem as if there might be “two sides” to the story, so it had to go.

R.I.P., New York Times. I’m old enough to remember when it used to be a good paper. It’s just Pravda now.

I could see this coming – didn’t figure it’d get to the courts via Arkansas though.

Has to do with “parents” getting their names on birth certificates – probably make for some “interesting arguments” as the last time I looked at such a document there was a box headed ‘Mother’ and another labelled ‘Father’
