Prime Time!

Tucker Carlson interviewed Curtis Yarvin, AKA “Mencius Moldbug”, for an hour today. That’s quite a development, I think.

Back at the end of July, I noted in a Twitter thread that a new and influential troika had taken shape:

“Moldbug, [Michael] Anton, and BAP [“Bronze Age Pervert”] have emerged as the three corners of the triangle for thoughtful and historically literate people on the Right who are trying to make sense of our predicament, and to peer forward into the murk.

Anton is the only one who hasn’t completely given up on the American Founding quite yet; that has a certain appeal to many of us, especially those of us who are old enough to remember pre-zombie America. But there isn’t much left to hang onto there…

BAP brings a rousing call for an awakening of the blood and spirit, of the simple joy of power and vigor, but his message is as yet inchoate as a practical blueprint for effective action.

Yarvin is the one who sees most clearly the awfulness of the predicament – but we out here in the reactosphere have had decades, now, of solid diagnosis, and it just isn’t enough anymore.

The question is what is to be *done*.

The awful fact is that at this point there may be very little that *can* be done, other than building some sort of ark to save what we can.

But you never know – and as chessplayers like to say, nobody ever won a game by resigning!”

I have a link to a copy of the show. (Haven’t even watched it yet myself.) Have a look here. (Audio-only version here.)

P.S. Here, also, are two conversations between Anton and Yarvin: one hosted by Jack Murphy, and the other a follow-up podcast hosted by Anton himself.

All of this is going to take hours of your time. Listen anyway.

P.P.S. If you aren’t listening to BAP, his podcasts are here. Also, do yourself a favor and read his book.

Thank you for directing our attention to this!

[The mega-dot-nz page wasn’t operative for me]

The Zarathustra Leviathan channel (no relation) has put the complete 75-minute interview audio up on YouTube:

I have read BAP’s book. It is basically misunderstood Nietzsche and BS.

Yarvin is interesting (when he can be understood), but tedious. What is significant is that Carlson found him.

    What is happening to Carlson?

I tried Bronze Age Pervert but didn’t get very far. Maybe it’s not at all written for someone in his 70s.
Michael Anton is worth a listen as he is positive and realist at the same time. I have no patience for the negative, give up attitude of other writers. I have been through too much, seen too much and survived too much to buy the ‘it’s over mentality’.

Maybe he is wondering just ‘what’ is to really be conserved and just how to conserve it conservatively. (Hint, it can’t be ‘conservatively’).

I wouldn’t write BAP off so brusquely (and I’m not sure how, exactly, one would say that he’s misunderstood Nietzsche). His style is, of course, an affectation, but one shouldn’t be fooled by it into thinking he’s just a flamboyant poseur. He is, in my opinion, a serious thinker and a remarkably erudite student of history.

That the Claremont Institute (including, of course, Michael Anton, who was introduced to BAP by none other than Curtis Yarvin) took him seriously enough to run a symposium on the guy should make anyone who blithely dismisses him wonder if they mightn’t have missed something.

    “What is happening to Carlson?”

I think he understands the latent energy that exists in the traditional American nation right now; it’s like a supercooled liquid just waiting for some seed around which it can crystallize. It’s becoming clear to him, perhaps, that he is the most prominent seed we have at the moment. (It isn’t Trump any longer, though he may still have some role to play.)

Seethings – thanks for that audio link. The Mega page is troublesome.

(PS I can certainly understand, if you live in DC, why you might be seething right about now…)

My posting the video to Tucker removing to Maine portends, I’m of the belief, a wider observing. Actually something that might be ‘more broadly discussed here’ since – for unknown reasons – the site I’d be more expecting of discussing this stuff on is down (hopefully temporarily) and that would be Diplomad’s.

(Apologies Malcolm if I’m taking unwarranted/undeserved/unasked/undesired liberties which, perhaps, may skew this post way off course.)

That yootoob in which Carlson’s explaining he’s “decamped” is a three-parter with the latter being dedicated to a subject “more current” deserving … more discussion:

And so now our [apparent] mission – should we decide to accept it – is

    To change the subject.
